The Truth About Collagen Creams

in Collagen

Let's face it. There are dozens of collagen creams on the market, today, even though there are no proven benefits associated with the use of the products. Collagen facial cream might have some momentary cosmetic benefit, but there are other compounds that provide that and improve the skin's health, which means that the skin's appearance continues to improve, as time goes by.

If you have been a bit neglectful over the years and you're over the age of 40, you're probably starting to see some sun damage. Creams containing coenzyme Q10 have been shown to reverse sun damage, reduce wrinkles and improve the skin's moisture content by at least 30% over the course of six weeks. Collagen creams do not provide those benefits.

Functional Keratin, a proprietary formulation of the active keratin protein, has been shown to improve the skin's firmness by over 40% after only 18 days of use. Manufacturers of collagen facial cream claim that the compound reduces sagging and improves firmness, but there are no clinical studies to support those claims.

The skin is composed of four to five layers of the dead cells that comprise the epidermis. Below those layers, the dermis is found, which is where collagen and elastin fibers, often called elastic fibers, because of there elastic nature, are found. Collagen facial cream will not penetrate through the epidermis. So, they cannot supplement the content of the elastic fibers, nor can they stimulate their growth.

Moisturizers containing Functional Keratin have been shown to stimulate the growth of the elastic fibers and stimulate the production of new cells in the epidermis. The use of collagen creams will not stimulate the growth of cells or fibers.

The cosmetic benefit of collagen facial cream is due to its gelatinous consistency. It "fills in" wrinkles and fine lines, reducing shadows and bending the light just slightly, which makes the lines appear less deep. Users have said that the benefit only lasts for a few hours, at best. Some users have found that as soon as they smiled, the gelatin cracked like a mask.

The consistency of Functional Keratin is something like liquid skin. It also bends the light slightly, making the skin look smoother than it actually is. Users indicate that the cosmetic effect lasts all day. Unlike those who have used collagen creams, users of the keratin-rich products find that there appearance continues to improve as the weeks go by.

With continued use, lotions containing Functional Keratin and other nourishing ingredients like antioxidants help people like you and I look younger, without paying for cosmetic surgery or risking the negative side effects accompanied by it. If we give the skin what it needs, it can repair all kinds of damage, even that which was done by neglect.

Make no mistake about it. Collagen facial cream does not provide anything that the skin needs to be healthy or beautiful. It's just an advertising gimmick. Don't waste your money on collagen creams. Look for products that contain antioxidants and Functional Keratin, instead. You'll be glad that you did.
